An amazing movie to see!!!! Promises

I COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY RECOMMEND THIS DOCUMENTARY TO WATCH!!! This has to be in my top 20 favorite movies. It may sound educational, but really its much more than that. SUMMARY OF MOVIE-PROMISES follows the journey of one of the filmmakers, Israeli-American B.Z. Goldberg. B.Z. travels to a Palestinian refugee camp and to an Israeli settlement in the West Bank, and to the more familiar neighborhoods of Jerusalem where he meets seven Palestinian and Israeli children. Though the children live only 20 minutes apart, they exist in completely separate worlds; the physical, historical and emotional obstacles between them run deep. PROMISES explores the nature of these boundaries and tells the story of a few children who dared to cross the lines to meet their neighbors. Rather than focusing on political events, the seven children featured in PROMISES offer a refreshing, human and sometimes humorous portrait of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.PROMISES, a film by Justine Shapiro, B.Z. Goldberg and co-director and editor Carlos Bolado, was shot between 1995-2000.Running time, 106 minutes.Arabic, Hebrew and English dialogue with English subtitles. The Children: The 7 children featured in PROMISES were filmed over 4 years when they were 9-12 years old: Yarko & Daniel- Secular Israeli twin boys living in Jerusalem. Faraj- A Palestinian refugee boy living in the Deheishe Refugee Camp in the West Bank. Sanabel- A Palestinian refugee girl in the Deheishe Refugee Camp in the West Bank. Shlomo- An ultra-orthodox Jewish boy in the Jewish Quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem. Mahmoud- A Palestinian boy living in East Jerusalem. Moishe & sister Raheli live in the Beit El Settlement in the West Bank .

This documentary has one countless awards and was shot in the late 1990's! You must see it!

Just went to NYC!

madame tousseuo's
So, we just had Spring break (pretty early this year) and I went to New York City! It was amazing! Although expensive, it's totally worth it! There's so much to see, like the Empire State Building, Central Park, Times Square, etc. I recommend taking the city sights bus tour! It's really awesome! It's one way to see everything, except not really go there. (You just pass it the place and the guide talks to you about it! I also recommend seeing Madame Tousseou's Wax Museum! Everything there is amazing and so life like! If you go shopping in Soho and Greenwich Village, it's something you will not forget! Those two area's are some of the best places to shop in NYC. If you go up in the elevators at the Empire State Building, your ears actually pop! it also offers a great view of the city. Square is SOOOO Huge! Big flashing signs are everywhere, and it's yet another great place to shop! (although it can get to be quite expensive.) Two more interesting museum's to see are the Guggenhiem (designed by Wisconsin native Frank Lloyd Wright) and the M.O.M.A (Museum of Modern Art- has the famous painting Starry Night by Vincent van Gough.) And finally, don't forget the Halal guys- these are street vendors that offer GREAT Indian/ Greek food at a really cheap price! Plus, they're pretty much everywhere. I even had Halal food two days in a row! Overall, I defenatly would go to NYC! (and who wouldn't want to???)

The Giver by Lois Lowry

After reading this book for the second time, I am still left thinking what could've happened to Jonas.
At the beginning of the book, Jonas's world is perfect. There is no pain, hunger, war, and no love. Every year, when a person turns twelve, they are assigned a job to help the community. Jonas has no idea what job he will get, until he is awarded the job of receiver of memory.
Jonas's instructor, the Giver, holds all the memories of past human life. When there was war, pain, emotions, and color. As the year goes by, Jonas learns all of these memories, and realizes that there is so much more to life than he has been getting in his community, which he once thought was perfect.
Jonas plans to run away, taking a young child with him, (you will understand if you read the book) to find the world he's been missing. Jonas wants to discover what it's like to have feelings, to have joy, to also have pain and sorrow.
At the end of the book, Jonas and Gabe (the infant he took with him), hungry, hurt, and tired, slide down a snowy hill on a sled, seeing twinkling green and red Christmas lights and music in the distance, two things he would have never known in his past life.
The question is, does Jonas make it? Did he actually die and is just in heaven in the world he wanted? Or did he really make it to the world he desired? Lois Lowry has left the story a cliff hanger, letting readers decide what they think the ending should be. Overall, The Giver is worth reading and is one of my favorite books!
