Everyone knows the Beatles- John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, and George Harrison. From all their great songs, over 250 songs to be exact-starting with 'love me do' and "p.s i love you' in the the early sixties and ending the band the early seventies, but do you really know some of the details?
Paul McCartney and John Lennon met in 1957 at a church fair in Woolton England, a suburb of Liverpool. John was 16 at the time and had another band at the time, called the "Quarry men" and Paul had just turned 15. They quickly became friends and Paul joined John's band within 2 weeks.
In 1958, Paul saw talent in his friend George Harrison, so George joined the band also. George, Paul, and John all played the guitar, and they needed a bassist and or a drummer. This is where Stu Sutcliffe came in, as the bass player.
In 1960, Stu came up with a name for the new name for the band, "the beetles" after Buddy holly's band "the crickets". John liked the name, changing the name ever so slightly to "The Beatles" with the pun as the "beat" as in rock n roll.
In 1961 Stu quit the band to study art, so the Beatles now had 4 members in the band, making Paul become the new bassist.
In late 1961, the Beatles got a manager, Brian Epstein. The band aslo got a new studio drummer, Ringo Starr.
In 1962 the band recorded their first single, "Love me do". Later their second song "please please me" became their first hit single.
The beatles quickly became popular, with Britain and The USA. In 1963 the beatles showing on the ed sullivan show was a sure sign that the beatles were a new popular band.
Over the next years the beatles became one of the most popular bands in the USA and Britain, and the pressure overwhelmed the band, causing the band to play it's last recording on august 20, 1969. The band was no more by 1970.
Later George died from throat cancer in 2001, and John was shot dead by a crazy fan in 1980.
Even though the beatles aren't together anymore, their music will be loved forever by millions of people over the world.
