The book Walk two moons, by sharon creech, was a mostly good book, but some parts can be a litle confusing- especially if you don't read between the lines.
The story is of a girl, Salamanca tree hiddle, whos mom died two years ago in a bus crash, when Sal ( who salamanca is known as ) was 11. now sal is 13, and life is hard without her mom, but she learns to get over it with braveness.
As Sal is on a road trip with her grandparents, Gram and Gramps, traveling all over the USA to famous landmarks in the northern most states, Sal entertains gram and Gramps with a story about Sal's time living in Euclid Ohio, after moving from Bybanks, Kentucky, after her mom dies.
When Sal goes to school in Ohio she meets a very worrisome, 13-year old girl by the name of Phoebe Winterbottom. The two Quickly become good friends, doing almost everything together by the time they meet. So, when Phoebe's mother mysteriously disappears from the Winterbottom household not saying where she was going, but still staying in touch with her family, Sal is with Phoebe the whole time trying to solve the problem.
Phoebe's neighbor, Mrs. Partridge sends notes to Phoebe's family as advice to help them, even before Mrs. Winterbottem's leaving, leaving herself unknown as the writer of the notes. This is why WALK TWO MOONS is called this title, because of one of the important lessons Mrs. partridge involved in one of her notes to the winter bottom family, " don't judge a man until you've walked two moons in his moccasins" meaning, don't judge a person until you really know them and no what there life is like.
Since her moms leaving, Phoebe starts to get really nervous, annoying people to help her get her mom back. So, Mrs partridges note, " each man has his own agenda" means everyone has their own problems to worry about.
In the end, Phoebe's mom did come back, and it turns out she was visiting a secret son she had had 18 years ago that the Winterbottom family had not known about. The family was furious, but they were still happy to have their mother back.
As Gram and Gramps and Sal were still telling the story of phoebe, they decided to take a swim in the Mississippi river. While doing this, Gram got bitten by a water snake and had to go to the emergency room.
Gram (after she was healed), gramps, and Sal went to a few other places. While driving, gram had a heart attack, having to go to the hospital once again. Even though Sal was only 13, Gramps gave Sal the car keys to drive away from the hospital.
Sal drove for hours, where she finally stopped at the setting of the car crash where her mother died. While there, Sal realizes that Phoebe's own story brought back memories with her own mother, and also that she can never have her mother back, like Phoebe did. Her mom was dead, and Sal would just have to remember the good times they had together.
In the end, Gram died from the heart attack. gramps and Sal were devistated, but they soon started to get over it like they had with Sal's mother. And, matter of factly, they made a game where they would try to see what it would be like to walk in someone else's moccasins for a change.
I give this book 3 stars!
